It is a tribute to her strength, wisdom and the peace she showed in her final years. Inspired by this emotional farewell, I wish to pay homage to all the women who, like her, have embraced the fragility of life with a serene smile. Women who, in their solitude, have surrounded themselves with memories and objects laden with meaning: gifts, photographs, precious belongings and those bags that encapsulate fragments of their lives.
Each piece in this series reveals a deep generational connection. We are heirs of the past and mothers of the future. It is a recognition of the strength, grace and acceptance that the years teach us. Marifé Núñez explores old age through the imprint of time, symbolised in luxury brand bags. Each portrait is a visual narrative that captures the essence of women who have lived fully, whose stories are intertwined with memory and materiality. The bags transcend their value as mere objects: they become capsules that safeguard echoes of youth, scars of dreams and loves, and the marks of the wear and tear of life.
This body of work is not only a tribute to her mother, but also a reflection on materialism. Núñez invites us to rethink what we value and how those values are reflected in the objects we choose. Art is transformed into a mirror of our experiences and our essence.
